We partnered with the Lower East Side Girls Club to create a transformative day rooted in confidence, creativity, and community, all made possible with the generous support of New Balance, who outfitted every scholar in full NB gear and gifted each girl a fresh pair of sneakers.
Throughout the day, our girls explored four powerful workshops: Power in Your Words, Power in Your Mind, Power in Your Style, and Power in Your Body, each designed to help them tap into their voice, their clarity, their expression, and their strength.
Our first stop in the Rooted in Your Power series is Power in Your Words, led by Crystal Johnson Collective, a personal development platform that helps people cultivate self-love and emotional resilience through coaching, workshops, and community support. In this guided journaling workshop, the girls learned how writing can become a grounding practice, a place to process their feelings, set intentions, and reconnect with their inner voices. By putting their thoughts on paper, they explored who they are, what they value, and what they want to grow into. This session was a reminder that words carry weight, and when you choose them with purpose, you choose yourself with purpose.
Next was the Power in Your Mind workshop. Through a calming sound bath experience, the girls were introduced to mindfulness techniques that helped them slow down, breathe deeply, and tune into clarity. In a world that moves fast, this was a moment for them to simply be, releasing tension, quieting the noise, and finding peace within themselves. It was a powerful reminder that mental stillness is not a pause-it's a reset.
Our third workshop celebrated creativity and identity: Power in Your Style.
In partnership with The Sourced Studio, their founders led a charm bracelet workshop that invited the girls to design pieces uniquely their own. With each charm they selected, symbols of confidence, joy, protection, creativity, and more, became part of a wearable story. What began as a simple craft transformed into a powerful moment of self-expression, giving each girl a piece she could proudly wear as a reflection of who she is and who she's becoming; because style isn't just aesthetic, it's energy, personality, and story.
To close our Rooted in Your Power series, we stepped into Power in Your Body with Jaimé Yawa Dzandu. This mindful movement session helped our scholars reconnect with themselves through intentional breathwork, stretching, and grounding exercises. They learned how the body holds strength, memory, and emotion, and how movement can release what no longer serves them, while building confidence from the inside out. This workshop tied everything together: the mind, the voice, the creativity, and now the physical presence. At the end of the day, Bklyn Blend fueled the girls with refreshing smoothies, and they enjoyed a mindful eating experience curated by Greedi Vegan, reminding them that nourishment is another form of self-care.
Thank you to the girls who showed up fully rooted in their power.
