On Tuesday, in honor of Earth Day, Kith and Timberland joined their local Brooklyn community to prepare the working greenhouse of coffeehouse and community space, Playground Coffee Shop.
Their greenhouse, which formerly served as Playground Coffee’s outdoor dining space, is committed to sustainable gardening in both education and practice, as well as making free and fresh produce accessible to all members of their Brooklyn community through a network of public refrigerators.
The day was spent celebrating our shared commitment to this planet and each other, repotting new plants and restocking refrigerators with seasonal fruits and vegetables. A monetary contribution was made from Kith and Timberland to facilitate the effort, and to fund an internship program that will upkeep and harvest the greenhouse throughout the summer.
Mirroring our efforts in the local community, Kith celebrated Earth Day on O’ahu, Hawaii, by participating in a community workday hosted by the non-profit organization Kako’o Oiwi. Supporting cultural practices, agriculture, education and natural resource restoration, the event included removing invasive plants, out-planting native plant species and clearing waterways to maintain the surrounding farmland.
We encourage you to explore Playground Coffee and Kako’o Oiwi to learn more about their incredible ongoing sustainability initiatives as well as how you can get involved.
