Love Thy Community II: It's From the Sole

For the second edition of Love Thy Community, we’re teaming up with remarkable non-profits to uplift their vital work. Our inaugural partner is Andre McDonnell, founder of It’s From The Sole, a non-profit ensuring everyone has proper footwear.

In a world where proper footwear is often taken for granted, Andre and his team make sure every step counts, providing the often-overlooked luxury to men, women, and children in need. It’s a mission fueled by empathy and driven by a desire to make a tangible difference in people’s lives.

We’ve collaborated with Andre and his team in various ways and are honored to shed light on the profound impact of their work. Visit www.itsfromthesole.org to get involved and help make a difference.

Can you tell us a bit about It’s From The Sole’s inception?

On June 18, 2012, after playing basketball with friends in DeSalvio Park, I spotted a less fortunate man walking around barefoot. A sense of urgency came over me to take action. I was compelled to take off my sneakers and offer them to this gentleman. Nothing compared to the gratitude he expressed for this small act of kindness. This interaction made me realize that there are many people similar to this man, without so much as a decent pair of shoes. I knew in my heart there had to be something more I could do to make their walk through life a little easier. From that one moment, the idea of It’s From The Sole began.

What is a dream goal for It’s From The Sole?

Our dream goal is to secure a sneaker sponsorship and establish both domestic and international youth volunteer programs.

How extensive is It’s From The Sole’s impact?

We have provided footwear in 19 countries, 53 cities across America, and assisted 40,000 children, women and men.
